Although divorce laws are written as gender-neutral, in practice they often favor women, particularly in areas like child custody, alimony, and asset division. Courts frequently rely on traditional assumptions—such as women being primary caregivers and men being financial providers—which can disadvantage fathers regardless of involvement. This results in unequal outcomes where one gender bears disproportionate financial and parental losses. The issue isn’t individual judges’ intent, but outdated legal norms that haven’t fully adapted to modern, dual-income and shared-parenting realities.
